At Rockwood, Mt. Kineo rises majestically out of the water forming a sheer cliff 700 feet straight up one side and rolling down to the water’s edge on tree-studded rock formations on the other; a thing of beauty unrivaled in the Eastern United States. The early Indians came from far to obtain the peculiar green flint of Kineo to make arrowheads and other stone implements. With your back to the Blue Ridge Mountains, on Route 15 looking across Moosehead onto Mt. Kineo, our great Indian Chief profile can be seen.

The Rockwood area has complete services available for the sportsman and family vacationer. Our accommodations are numerous…housekeeping cottages, hotels, motels, lodges and campgrounds are ready to satisfy the discerning traveler. Motor boats and canoes are available, and our tackle shops will be happy to supply all your fishing needs. You will find most anything you need at our general stores and you may want to visit our gift shops, attend church or dine in our restaurants, offering home-cooked to gourmet meals.
